It's hard to say good-bye. May all your dreams come true...
Hi All,
I am truly looking forward to the roundtable this week and will miss this class and all of you very much. I wish you the best and keep in touch!
Take care,
Dr. E
Tuesday- Journey through the cosmos!!!! I thought this documentary/informational video was very interesting. It gave me some insight about the basics of you could say, astronomy, and the atmosphere, planets, stars, etc... that I had forgotten about! I also learned some new information. One thing that I found interesting was how the 9 planets were referred to as "The Family of the Sun." Another fact I found interesting was that the volcano located on Mars is as wide as Arizona, taller than Mt. Everest, and is named Mt. Olympus. The giant rift in the surface of Mars is 5k long! Another statement/fact that I found very interesting is the way he described Earth: the only world we know of that the matter has become alive and aware. That statement is a very clever way of explaining what we do know about planet Earth, and what it is that most of us are wondering about other planets such as our own. As he described in the video- what would their politics be like? What would they look like? What types of feelings and emotions would they have... if any? Do they have a president or a king/queen type of system? I can't imagine what else is out there, but it is not possible to believe that we are the only "things" out there?!?! It just wouldn't make sense. I wonder how complex or not complex they would be. Would they even be considered a "they"???? Would they be intelligent beyond belief? Or are they so primitive that "even a cave man" would be more advanced? The video kind-of lost me towards the end... I started "spacing" off a little bit! But even so, it really does make you wonder what else is out there. Where did they come from? How did they get there? Were they there before or after humans? How long will they stay there? How stable is their environment? Do they want to hurt us? Do they want to be our friends? I would be their friend! All of these questions will more than likely never be answered in our lifetime... obviously! But it sure makes one wonder. Also makes great movies and tv series! Next week- I am looking forward to the roundtable discussions. I like informal discussions rather than formal- you are able to express your opinion more and talk back and forth- representing different viewpoints- asking questions- and hearing arguments or ideas that you hadn't thought of. I better do more research so I am well prepared! :)
The final week of class primarily consisted of the round table discussions on the philosophers of science. I found these discussions to be enlightening since they explored topics not previously covered in the course. What I found particularly interesting was attempting to interpret how one philosopher would interpret the work of another. All in all, this course has provided me with insight into the strong need to promote science education to the general public and the personal rewards of being able to do so through the action component.
This was the last week of class! I'm so excited for summer and to hang out with family and friends. We presented the philosopher named Dewey. I specifically explained his theory on pragmatisim. I thought all the group's philosophers were interesting. It was fun to eat the yummy chile and cupcakes. What a good way to wrap up the semester.
The last week of class was focused on presenting information on the philosopher each group selected. Our group chose John Dewey, and I gave information on his ideas about education. It was very interesting to hear about the philosophers the other groups chose. After the roundtable discussion, we had the opportunity to relax and eat some good food, and just enjoy the last day of class. I have had a great time in this class this semester. Enjoy your summer everyone!
During this last week of class, we focused on doing a roundtable discussion in which each group presented information about a selected philosopher. I really enjoyed this process because I learned a lot of information that I did not previously know about a few philosophers and I was introduced to several philosophers that I knew nothing about. Overall, it was a great activity to end the semester. It allowed us to continue to learn new information, but in a more informal and fun way.
All-in-all, I really enjoyed this course. I learned a lot of new information and had a lot of fun in the process. Have a great summer!
thanks all... i know not very many people read the blogs. i skim over them but i think our discussions in class are more fun and interesting. The discussion about the different philosophers was intriguing and different. I enjoyed the topics that they tried to discover. The interesting topic of artificial intelligence just boggles my mind and poses so many questions just like some scientists viewing the stars and heavens. It just poses so many ifs and questions just like dark matter and how phenomenon can't be explained. I honestly could pose so many questions and no one could tell me the same answer. Thanks for the great year class..
I found the philosophy round table discussions very interesting. It gives you different perspectives on the world that we live in. This world is an amazing place and it is hard for any one person to correctly describe it. The study of philosophy shows that many intelligent people differ greatly in there views. I had a great semester and I found this class very interesting. Thanks for everything.
This week we had a round table discussion on our philosophers. My group chose Thomas Kuhn and talked about his Scientific Revolutions and paradigm shifts. I was unable to make it to class Thursday due to a court hearing for a speeding ticket. I heard that the chili, cupcakes..etc were amazing. I wish I could have made it! This class has really taught me that scientific literacy is the future. We need to promote it further in our schools. Also, i think it is excellent to have college students give back to the community through scientific outreach programs like at Jolly Elementary. This capstone IDEA410 course was something I never wanted to take. I was really skeptical about it and didn't like the foundation course. However, after taking the capstone I am really glad I took it. Thanks Dr. Ezrailson!!!
This week's classes were very enjoyable. On Tuesday we had the round table discussion about the science philosophers, and I learned a great deal from it all. There were theories that I agreed and disagreed with, but all were something that made me think and look at isues from another viewpoint. Thursday's class was also really nice, finishing up the last two philosophers and then just relaxing and talking with everyone. The food was really great too! Thank you Dr. Ezrailson and Jamie for it all. This was a really great class :)
